One Word 2013 – Grace

I have just joined One Word 2013 – A bit late I know but I have only just discovered it and it so resonated with me.

My One Word for this year is….

OneWord2013_GraceI am having a massive revelation of the Grace of God this year. I can’t believe that in all my years of being a believer (nearly 40 years) -I didn’t truly realise how wonderful God’s Grace is.

I feel like I am starting my journey with God all over again.

Grace is a word that I had difficulty understanding what it means. It is all through Paul’s writings but I never fully grasped its essence. I just thought it was a once off thing. When you made the decision to be a believer – God’s grace saved you. That was it. But I was so wrong! Grace is so much more!

We were born again to experience God’s grace every moment of our lives. In fact I have learned that I can’t live this God life without His grace!

My first step was discovering what the word actually means.

Grace = Unmerited Favour

Unmerited = I don’t deserve God’s favour. I did nothing and can do nothing to earn it. He just gives us favour because He loves us.

Favour= Kindness, support, defence, promotion, justify, lenity, good will, gift, advantage, bias, enablement, strength to keep going.

Wow! Once I discovered the meaning of the word Grace – it became a revelation to me. Now when I come across the word Grace – I substitute “Unmerited Favour” and the meaning becomes clear.

God’s unmerited favour is the gospel.

In fact God’s unmerited favour is a person – Jesus Christ.

I discovered that the more I learn about Jesus the more Grace becomes a part of my life.

May grace (God’s Favour) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in [the full, personal, precise and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

–  2Peter 1:2 AMP
